Often, we are not satisfied with our place in life and would rather be someone else. And that
someone else would again rather be another person who, it seems, would gladly be yet another
one… and so forth.
In this picture book that is written in verses, the author has lined up 25 characters, just as pearls are
strung in a necklace. The last character, Pero the fisherman, who is in love with his granddaughter,
would never change his place. He closes the necklace and returns the story to the very beginning.
The text in this book is characterized by a strong educational tone, complexity, and a sparkling wit,
while the illustrations are imaginative, lucid, witty, and perfectly executed.
